Christmas

It is hard to believe that Christmas is just a few weeks away. Time seems to go so slow looking back over it. At other times, it seems to have sped by. I sometimes don’t like the transitions of life: moving, relationships, kids growing up, and so on.

I had a lady in my church several years ago, Chappie. She was over ninety years old at the time I last saw her. Chappie was resilient: she continued to drive, live alone, and sing in the choir.

However, she had been through so many changes and losses. I often wondered how she kept such an upbeat attitude. So, I asked her one Sunday after church. Her answer was simple, yet brilliant. She said, “I just enjoy every phase of life.” She did not look forward with too much worry, and she did not look back with too many regrets.

As I said, that is simple, but not so easy to pull off. I believe that while Christ had his eye on another kingdom, he excelled at living in the moment more so that anyone ever has.

As we enter the Advent season, I hope that we can enjoy every day of it.
