From the Desk of Pastor Matt
I have been amazed at what this church can do when it puts its hand to the plow. Things that seem tough or too big become achievable when the people here decide to go for it. Susan Black and others remind us that with God we can do all these things. They must be right because great things are being done.
Since I have been here, I have lost count of everything this church has undertaken. There have been loads of candy handed out for Trunk or Treat. Momma’s Meals have gone out every Sunday as far as I know. The worship team has been up there playing pretty much every week. Every time I check it, the Blessing Box has food in it, and it stays nice. Communion is always well-prepared and on the table. There is always somebody to greet me when I walk in for worship. Hats and Mats stays busy helping the homeless. I believe there were sixty dresses made for little girls in Africa, and they are starting back at that again! There is peanut butter, baby food, and paper products stacked up in the narthex. The Love Feast will be this weekend, serving hundreds of people. Someone always opens the church and closes it up. There are numerous Sunday School classes led by great teachers each week.
I could go on and on about all the things this church has done and is doing. The thing that stands out is that these things often appear to just happen. However, many people are making all these things happen. I appreciate what you are doing. Although we cannot do these things without God’s help, God chooses not to do them without our help.
Do we rest on our laurels? I think we should sometimes. At times, we need to realize how much we are doing and celebrate each thing. At other times, we need to re-gear or take a break. Still, sometimes we need to push ourselves and our church. Just imagine what else we can do with God’s help.
In Acts 4, we read, “Thus Joseph, who was also called by the apostles Barnabas (which means son of encouragement), a Levite, a native of Cyprus, sold a field that belonged to him and brought the money and laid it at the apostles’ feet.” Those early Christians were doing amazing things, too, and they were doing so because people like Barnabas and others were stepping up. When they saw a need, they met it. They made the church great and the world a better place. I hope you know that you are doing the same thing.
Peace,
Pastor Matt
