From The Workshop

FROM THE WORKSHOP Two weeks ago it was Helene’s destruction from Florida through North Carolina. Now Milton is coming. There are multiple sites for donations. If you want a good one, it’s our Disciple Week of Compassion.
Go to https://www.weekofcompassion.org/.  Designate your gift and as always 100% goes to the need.

Now to our regularly scheduled announcements! October is finally here and we have three special events

A Future With Hope is our three-week stewardship event. Jeremiah is our guide as we walk into deeper waters of hope. Explaining what today’s world has in common with the Biblical text, Dr. Walter Brueggemann said, “Ours, like the time of Jeremiah, is a time of violence, it’s a time of loss, it’s a time of bewilderment, it’s a time of fear, and I think that the book of Jeremiah gives voice to all of that, and before it finishes, it also manages to give voice to hope.” He called that “a much-needed voice in our time.” (Presbyterian Mission, May 2021)

For three Sundays we will delve into our “future with hope” which many outside of the church do not have. Check your mailbox this week for a letter from Team Leader Don Blanding, a prayer for your mirror or fridge, and a giving card. Every week goes deeper.

Empower and Equip is a Disciple Regional workshop coming Saturday, November 16 at Forest Park Christian Church in Tulsa. A few titles from the 8 workshops include Life Cycle for Churches, Social Media for Congregations, Who are the Disciples Today? (Dr. Lisa Barnett from the Phillips faculty), Mission Trips Forum, and Elders Best Practices. See the flyer further down in the newsletter for registration.

And Holy Cow! Last but not least, our hope-focus continues in November as we prepare for our every-member-church assessment from Holy Cow Consulting. Through a series of  multiple questions the assessment will paint a picture of who we are today, our aspirations, beliefs, and energy for moving forward.

“Hope” to see you Sunday,

Pastor Tom
