From the desk of Pastor Matt

My educational journey has wandered over the years. After finishing college and then seminary in 2004, I lay low on school for a while. Eventually, I felt an itch to study. So, I took the advice of the minister who served as my de facto mentor. He said to get a Doctor of Ministry
So, I enrolled in the D.Min. program at Lexington Theological Seminary. Early in the program, we were encouraged to think about what we were going to do for our final project and dissertation/paper. After finishing the first year, I knew I was in the wrong place. Before I even started, I wanted to study Amish spirituality. However, I was discouraged from doing this due to the lack of resources. I knew I wanted to head in another direction, and I found it after talking with a Spiritual Director while in St. Louis. After talking to her and some other people, I decided to study to be a Spiritual Director. That ended up being the right move for me. “Spiritual Director” might not sound as fancy as “Doctor”, but I love studying Christian spirituality and how to help people grow in it.
I would say that a spiritual director is a mix of a therapist and a pastoral care provider, such as a pastor. Going to a session of spiritual direction can look different depending on who you see. However, at its heart, spiritual direction is primarily geared toward helping you grow in your faith and grow closer to God.
If you are interested in seeing me for spiritual direction time, I would welcome it. For any church member or visitor, there is no cost. I am glad to offer that as part of my ministry. If you have any questions, just let me know.

Sincerely,
Pastor Matt
