From The Workshop
FROM THE WORKSHOP “O the weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful. As long as we’ve no place to go . . .”
Most of us can sing the stanza without looking up the words. Most of us know Frank and Dean who first sang it. Others of us will have to search for who Frank and Dean are and the words. On the other hand, most of us didn’t understand the words and the artistry of Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show. It’s safe to say that here in 2025 more of us are comfortable “where we are” than engaging the upcoming generations (And that includes me, your interim pastor!)
What does any of this have to do with First Christian Church Moore? It’s all about the past and the future. On March 9, weather permitting, after service, we’re having an all-church fellowship lunch with Holy Cow for dessert! In 40 minutes we’ll try to unpack and start comprehending a three and a half hour interpretation Elizabeth Hamilton gave us on January 18, just a month ago.
Here’s a little preparation for March 9:
- We will learn our five unique drivers for our congregation’s satisfaction. And five unique drivers of our energy. (Three of these drivers show up on both lists!)
- We will learn where our congregation resides on an “energy-satisfaction” map.
- What is critical for us to address to improve our success and satisfaction?
- What do all different age groups and different participation levels (from those at the front door and those at the back door) agree are most important?
- What is our dominant theological index (progressive to conservative)?
- Where do we fit on a map between settled/adaptable and progressive/conservative, and why does it matter?
- Where are we more flexible and where will it be prudent to move more slowly?
- How do our “dashboard gauges” compare to other congregations–hospitality, morale, conflict management, governance, spiritual vitality, readiness for ministry, worship and music, engagement in education?
- Why are the worship/music scores so vital to the congregation?
- What is surprising about our giving?
From here, we will decide the next steps to becoming a healthier, inclusive, joyful congregation. And hint, the train is already moving!
See you Sunday, March 2.
